Look At Offset for Adventure Camera

Crispy 2 months ago in Game Creator updated by Marti (Lead Developer) 2 months ago 6

Could you add the Look At Offset from the Follow Camera to the Adventure Camera? I want to be able to rotate the camera left and right, but not up and down. I have Max Pitch set to 0, but I need to adjust the angle at which the camera is looking at the Player.

Unity version:
2018.4.9f1
Game Creator version:
1.0.1

Hey Crispy, you can already do that using the Pivot Offset and Target Offset properties.

Just to make sure, Target Offset allows to look slightly at a different direction from the target (rotates from the pivot). On the other hand, Pivot Offset allows to move the pivot of the camera (like panning from the pivot).

With Max Pitch set to 0, Pivot Offset behaves the same as Target Offset in that X moves left and right, Y moves up and down, Z moves forward and backward.

Correct. The Max Pitch is only used when orbiting the camera around the Player. This is mainly used so that looking up with the camera doesn't overshoot 90º and you see the Player from an upside down position. As for the Target Offset and Pivot Offset, one works on world space and the other one in Local Space from the Pivot's perspective

So, what's the solution?

I want to be able to rotate the camera left and right, but not up and down. If I clamp the up and down camera movement with Max Pitch, I can't adjust the angle at which the camera looks at the Player.

Hmm actually you're right. The Target Offset basically pans the camera in world-space, which isn't really that useful. I'll open a ticket and circle back once I've tested this out better.
