would it be possible to have an action that detects if the player/character fell from a certain height in order to take damage or die?

Good idea. There's the On Land Trigger that is invoked whenever a character lands on the floor. We can add a way to store the downward velocity onto a Local, Global or List Variable so you can check the value and add fall damage if it's higher than a certain amount
