GC make Unity crash?

Dornano 6 months ago in Game Creator updated 6 months ago 2

Hi all,

I'm getting more and more Unity crashes, and I think it's coming from GC, because I used to work on another Unity project without GC and it worked fine. But now I'm using GC, and I get a lot of crashes and even blue screens, especially when I manipulate actions, conditions, triggers and so on. When I use something else like ProBuilder, add materials, just run the game etc, I don't have crashes.

Unfortunately I don't have message in the console, no clue. I can just give you my technical sheet :

Processor Intel Core i7-7700HQ (Quad-Core 2.8 GHz / 3.8 GHz Turbo - Cache 6 Mo)

  • RAM : 16 Go DDR4
  • Graphic chipset NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 4 Go RAM GDDR5
  • SSD M.2 SATA of 256 Go + hard disk 1 To (5400 RPM)
  • Windows 10 Professionnel 64 bits
  • Disk space remaining : 66Go/237 on the C. 142Go/931 on the D.

Does anyone get some crash issues too?

Feel free to tell me if you need any information.

Hope this doesn't sound like I'm waving off responsibility, but I highly doubt Window crashes are coming from Game Creator. We simply use Unity's API to create a more designer-friendly environment and we don't do any "hacks" or things that could compromise your system.

However, make sure you're using the latest Unity and Game Creator versions, as well as having your drivers up to date. You should have enough RAM so that shouldn't be a problem, but make sure your primary disk has free space (running out of space could potentially lead to unhandled errors from Unity, as for my experience).

I'm marking this as Not a Bug, although I'm not sure how I should categorize this. If you can consistently reproduce a crash, please let me know :-)

Yeah sure, I would be surprised too if GC create such crashes. Thank you for checking. The more I use it, the more I realize how your tool is very well thought and even entertaining to use, so those crash issues are so frustrating...

Well, I update here my situation anyway, in case it would help someone else.

-I updated my main drivers.

-I double checked I'm using the last version of Unity and GC.

-I launched error check on D and C disks.

-I clean it up and made more free space on each.

-I launched a RAM test.

-I gave all kind of authorizations (writing, reading...) to everyone on the project.

But still crash.

I found a crash log I'm not able to understand, and now I've sent a crash report to Unity, waiting for their answer. But since I can't reproduce the crash with a 100% working step-by-step, despite it's crashing all the time, I'm not really confident.

If Unity can't help, I'll try to move my project on another computer.
