Accessing local variables on Player?

marjohloo 5 months ago in Game Creator updated by Marti (Lead Developer) 5 months ago 1

I'm having trouble accessing local variables directly on the player, my Player has an sName variable initially set to "None":

If I want to display this in the UI I can do so by specifying to take the variable from the GameObject Player (this works):

But if I try to access the variable direct from the player (instead of via a GameObject) it doesn't display the name in the UI at all (but does display the label):

What am I doing wrong?

I'm a bit perplexed, since this should work just fine. The only thing that comes to mind is that there could be another object with the Player Character component, which is interfering. Could this be the case? There should only be one single Player Character component in your scene.
