Pet Companion add on

Fuquan 10 months ago in Game Creator updated by Marti (Lead Developer) 9 months ago 3

Hi,

I have just come acroess this Unity Asset and like many  after seeing the information on Unity about it I consider it a much needed/worthwhile asset and as such I am about to start setting time aside to go through the available training material to become properly acquainted with the product. However, if you do not mind me asking would it be possible to include some form of add-on that allows the Character to have a pet NPC and as such provide the pet NPC with both follow and attack/defence capabilites?

If this is something you can include and are willing to put it on the "ToDo" list then simply send me an email and even before I get through the training material I will purchase the product way in advance of me ever using it.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Hi Fuquan;

This is currently possible. There's the Action "Follow Character". This Action makes a character stay within a certain radius from another character (plus a distance threshold so the movement feels more natural).

As for attacking and defending, this is a bit more abstract. We're currently working on the Melee module that will allow a character to perform different close quarter maneuvers. However, if your game doesn't require a combo system or different weapon types, you can simply use the "Play Gesture" Action to make the companion character play an attack animation and execute some associated actions (such as subtracting life from the targeted character).

Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have further questions!

Hi Marti,

Thanks for the prompt feedback and I am happy to hear it is possible. Could I just ask 1) I see you are busy making tutorials would one showing the "How To" create a pet companion NPC (i.e a dog) be one tutorial you could add to your liist of "to do"? 2) I have watched the existing videos but I am a bit confused as to how we can setup an X-Box Controller with this tool is there any guidance on this. 3) Are things like setting up player swimming, climbing or horse riding guides available and 4) How would I go about making a two-player (or even local multi-player) setup with this tool would you have any video guides. I refer to video as given the limitation on ones time videos are easier to quickly go through and take notes from than rummaging through online docs more so videos are a proof of concept really so as teaching aid they often work better. But if no videos then online docs will do as this is a promising tool which one is making plans to get and replace the Invector controller one currently has.

I look forward to your feedback.

Thanks and do have a pleasant day!
