An issue that discord can’t solve

Brayden 7 months ago in Game Creator updated by Marti (Lead Developer) 7 months ago 10

When I set up GC on a new project, I keep having having the issue to where either my joystick doesn’t show up all together for my “Player”  (and yes I have “isControllable” on and set to “Directional) and whenever it has shown up the joystick won’t respond to any touch from my phone

Unity version:
2018.4.4f1 LTS
Game Creator version:
0.9.6

We just released the new Game Creator version (0.9.7) which should solve this issue. Let me know if you still experience this issue after updating.

As written on the Discord channel, your copy of GC is not fully installed. The reason your Touchstick does not appear is that the Touchstick prefab is missing from your project files. It is not the only thing that is missing, the ragdoll animations are missing, the save manager is missing scripts (hence the save/load errors), and other bits like the icons from your GC toolbar.

You should download 0.9.6 from the HUB and drag that in. I tested on both Android and IOS and it is good. No issues at all with the project files that you sent me.

Just an update to the post: we tried everything such as from the HUB, no errors while running, starting Character above the ground, etc and none worked.

But still, it's strange that Game Creator didn't fully install. Can you attach some screenshots showing these errors? How did you install Game Creator?

I’ve installed from Unity, I’ve deleted it and reinstalled it from a Unity, I’ve pressed reinstall from the downloaded GC, and I’ve gotten it from the HUB and none have worked. I get no error messages while installing or running, just for some reason the joystick will not work but will show up.

I'll open a ticket and have a look at it. I don't recall changing anything regarding the joystick but I'll circle back once I got some news

The tests of this work fine for me. It is unlikely to be a GC issue. To say none have worked is not correct, progress was made but his end device issue is not solved as yet.The reinstall of GC sorted out the issue of missing prefabs and scripts. The Joystick now shows up, but for Brayden, the player does not move. I suggest it is an Xcode/iPhone issue (or the configuration of such), as his build works on both my Android and IOS devices.

Thank you Paul. Brayden, could you check the logs in XCode? Might give you an idea where the problem is. Also, make sure you're using the latest XCode version and your iPhone/iPad is up to date.

Recreating Brayden's issue with his project and using the runtime debug window in xCode, show that the touchstick prefab has a null reference.

Further investigation shows that the prefab in Brayden's project is missing the touchstick container and images. Unity appears to have lost the references to things objects. This can be fixed by manually updating the prefab or installing GC 0.9.7

Excellent Paul! Thank you very much to take the time to investigate this. I will relink all prefab links and this problem should be gone on the next update. Cheers!
